What does the famous equation E=mc^2 mean?
Whats E=mc^2?
Well today, you are going to find out. A couple of weeks ago, I was watching this video on YouTube about the efficiency of black holes in creating mass into energy. It was all about the equation e=mc^2. I always thought what the equation was very complex but after watching the video, I understood the meaning behind the famous equation.
What it means?
So to keep it simple, E is energy; m is mass, and c is the speed of light squared!
So, Albert Einstein said that energy equals the mass times the speed of light squared! That means that a 5 kg cat is enough to power the country of Norway for 2 years. That much energy from a 5 kg cat is really big. But sadly, we can’t harness 100% of the mass. The best method of getting energy from mass only gets about 0.000007% of the energy from the mass of the object.
To get energy from mass really efficiently, there are 4 ways:
1. Chemical reaction
2. Nuclear reaction
3. Antimatters reaction
Chemical Reactions
Chemical Reactions are like burning. But this is not a practical way of getting energy from mass because it's really bad. Like horribly bad. It only gives out 0.0000000001% of the mass to energy's which is nothing. So, that's not a real way of converting mass into energy.
Nuclear Reaction
This method is a little bit fine but it is still really bad because splitting Uranium 235 into Krypton 92 and Barium 141 and 3 neutrons only generates about 0.08% of its mass into energy! Which is not that bad but really bad at the same time. Fussing Hydrogen into helium like in the sun only generates about 0.07% of its mass to energy.
Anti Matter Reactions
You might think that the first 2 methods are really so this one is too. But, actually, this produces about 100% of mass into energy! This could be a solution for everything! But, there is a catch. First of all, Antimatter is the opposite of matter. Everything is matters. You, me, the world, and even air is matter. But, we have found a way of converting matter into Antimatter. But, it takes a lot of energy to create antimatter itself so that's not a good way either.
